Team Building Activities: FUEL FOR YOUR TEAM!

When you hear the term team building, what does it mean to you? How would you define team building? What images does team building conjure up for you? Think Team Building Activities.

Team building, as defined by Wikipedia states:-

Team building is a collective term for various types of activities used to enhance social relations and define roles within teams, often involving collaborative tasks. It is distinct from team training, which is designed by a combination of functional managers to improve the efficiency, rather than interpersonal relations”. Think Team Building Activities that help to build trust within your team.

We don’t disagree with that definition however here at Urban Quest we believe team building is so much more than that. We believe that team building needs to become part of the culture. Any company investing in Team Building Activities should have a team building plan that delivers long-term behaviour change that results in a more efficient and productive culture whilst increasing business performance. In order to change, we must change. Only when we change shall we see the benefit of change. A famous quote by Mahatma Gandi told us that:-

“Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny.”

What he was really saying is that if you wish to have a positive destiny, you need to have positive beliefs. The same can be applied to your team. If you wish to have a team that has positive thoughts, words, actions, habits and values, then you need to feed that team with the right ingredients and that doesn’t mean just sticking a band-aid on with a one-day-out-of-the-office-per-year approach.

The right ingredients mean on a regular long-term basis, where quarterly Team Building Activities are budgeted for as part of your People Strategy and are an accepted cultural norm. Therefore, Team Building Activities need to be part of a plan that provides continuity and consistency. Any behaviour, either good or bad will only become a habit with continuity and consistency. Positive behaviours and habits will generally bring positive results.

If we think about continuity and consistency as part of an exercise routine, the more consistent we are in continuing with the exercise routine, the more likely we are to see positive results. You can only become fitter and healthier. Team Building Activities are very similar. A team can only become fitter and stronger as a result of Team Building Activities.

Why not think about Team Building Activities for your team? You have nothing to lose! Team Building Activities are most effective when individuals can partake in a competition, have fun and be part of it. Anything is possible with a little help from your friends here at Urban Quest, who are well versed in Team Building Melbourne.
