corporate group celebrating successful team building event

Enhancing Team Communication and Enjoyment

In the fast-paced world of renewable energy, fostering strong team dynamics is essential for success. Solar SG, a part of the leading national company Solar Battery Group in Australia, understands this better than most.

The company has been on a rapid growth trajectory, and with growth comes the challenge of integrating diverse teams from various departments. To tackle this challenge head-on, Solar SG’s founder and director David Roger turned to Urban Quest, a team building experience designed to improve communication and collaboration in a fun and engaging way.

The Challenge of Integration

As Solar SG expanded, bringing together multiple teams from different departments became increasingly difficult. In any large organization, silos can form, with departments working in isolation rather than collaborating effectively. This can lead to communication breakdowns, inefficiencies, and a lack of cohesion within the company. Solar SG’s founder recognised that to maintain their competitive edge, they needed to foster better communication and teamwork across the entire organisation.

“We’ve got quite a large operation, and there are different teams within that operation,” explains David. “Getting them to integrate is hard in business. When they come to work, they often don’t interact with teams outside their immediate department.”

Why Urban Quest?

The solution came in the form of Urban Quest, a team building experience that blends fun with problem-solving, designed to break down barriers and encourage collaboration. Solar SG first discovered Urban Quest a year ago when searching for an innovative team building exercise in Melbourne CBD. The concept of an “amazing race” style challenge, where teams must work together to solve puzzles and complete tasks, immediately caught their attention.

“The Amazing Race has plenty of publicity on TV, so that sparked our interest,” the founder recalls. “Urban Quest was very easy to deal with. The process was simple, and everything was well laid out.

A Repeat Experience for Lasting Results

Having experienced the benefits of Urban Quest last year, Solar SG decided to bring their team back for another round. This time, they chose an experience in a different location – Docklands. The change in scenery added an element of excitement and novelty to the experience.

“We did the City one last time, so this one in Docklands was a little bit different. I didn’t realise Docklands was so big, but it was really good and exciting,” David shares. The varied settings of Urban Quest allow teams to experience different environments, adding an extra layer of engagement to the activity.

One of the key strengths of Urban Quest is its ability to mix and match teams. This ensures that employees who don’t normally work together get the chance to interact, collaborate, and build relationships. For Solar SG, this was particularly valuable, as it helped bridge the gaps between departments.

Teams working together is the key here,” says the founder. “It’s not just one person – everyone needs to work together to solve the problems. The proximity to other teams ensures that everyone’s running in the same direction, which is good.”

More Than Just Team Building—It’s Fun!

While the primary goal of Urban Quest is to improve teamwork and communication, it’s important not to overlook the element of fun. Solar SG’s team not only learned to work better together but also genuinely enjoyed the experience.

It was a lot different from last time but really exciting,” notes David. The enthusiasm and excitement generated by Urban Quest have a lasting impact, creating positive memories that employees carry back into the workplace.

Looking Ahead

Solar SG’s positive experiences with Urban Quest have solidified their commitment to using this team building approach as part of their ongoing strategy to enhance communication and teamwork. David Rogers is already considering future Urban Quest events, recognising their value in keeping the team connected and engaged.

We’ll definitely look at it again,” he confirms. “Maybe the city one next time, but we’ll definitely be back.”

In a business landscape where effective communication and teamwork are vital, Solar SG’s repeated use of Urban Quest underscores its effectiveness as a team building solution.

For companies looking to break down departmental barriers, improve collaboration, and have a great time in the process, Urban Quest offers an unbeatable experience.
